Expensify Inc. is committed to net zero emissions by 2030. Expensify has been carbon neutral since 2019 and is working towards the SBTi commitment with the help of several measures, including carbon offsets and removal projects.

Our Annual commitments

Brazil Nuts Concessions prevents deforestation and protects biodiversity on 500,000 acres in the Peruvian Amazon. The project affects over 300 small concessioner landowners aimed at refocusing the local economy towards the passive harvest of Brazil Nuts – a valuable commodity that can only be found in protected old-growth rainforests. The project also provides community members with sustainable income through carbon finance.

Nitrous oxide destruction enables fertilizer plants to maintain a more expensive process that turns nitrous oxide into harmless byproducts inside a reactor. Nitrous oxide (N₂O) is a greenhouse gas 298x as potent as CO₂. Agriculture, particularly artificial fertilizers and animal waste, greatly contributes to global nitrous oxide emissions. Nitrous oxide destruction projects are entirely funded by offset revenue, resulting in the permanent destruction of greenhouse gases.

2023

We continued supporting nitrous oxide destruction by offsetting our 2022 footprint of 10,281tCO₂e to nitrous oxide destruction projects. Expensify also purchased 1,581 MWh of Clean Power through STX Portfolio 2022.

We offset our 2021 carbon footprint of 5,469tCO₂e to support nitrous oxide destruction projects.

2021

We offset our 2020 carbon footprint of 5,551tCO₂e to support nitrous oxide destruction projects.

2020

We offset our 2019 carbon footprint of 4,147tCO₂e to Brazil Nut Concessions and nitrous oxide destruction projects.

This is only the beginning! Our future Climate Program plans include creating a meaningful carbon reduction and removal plan to cover supply chain emissions.
