Travel the World With Us!

With Expensify, you don’t need to put off your travel dreams! The entire team goes on a month-long Offshore to a new country every year. We start out the trip in hostels and Airbnbs, and then for our final week together, we re-locate to the most amazing or unique accommodation we can find!

How does it work?

We can work from anywhere in the world as long as there’s Internet access. On Offshore, we scour the city for the best cafes, bars, and public spaces that offer reliable internet, while some of us opt to work from our cozy lodgings. Either way, we get shit done!

In fact, Offshore is one of our most productive times of the year. People are typically skeptical when we say this, but when you’re in a different country sharing a hostel with your coworkers free from the distractions of home, you get into a different headspace. Interesting conversations happen during meals, or even late at night, which leads to some creative cross-team collaboration that doesn’t happen as organically at home.

Living la vida local

That’s not to say that Offshore is all work and no fun. Not only do we live daily life in a completely new country (which is fun and challenging in its own right), but we also take the time to relax on the beach and see the sites. Discover a local heritage site, eat your way through the local cuisine, or attend a sports match; whatever you want to do, just do it! Chances are, more than one person will want to join you on that adventure.

Bring a loved one, the more the merrier!

Offshore is totally optional; we know it’s hard to be away from families and significant others for too long. That being said, Offshore is family-friendly and we love it when significant others and kids join us! Families are welcome for the entire time or whichever leg of the trip works for them. Most join us for the last week of the trip – “fancy week” – which is always full of surprises, from eating at a Cambodian temple to renting out eighty vintage Italian sports cars for a night.

So where to next?

How do we choose where to go next? Anyone can submit a proposal for a destination, then our expert People Team scopes out the details to pick a destination that will work for our team and our families. Some of the countries we've been to include Italy, Uruguay, Thailand, Cambodia, Portugal, and Croatia.
