Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept:
Expensify prides itself in solving a real world problem with a team of top notch product experts. We are reinventing the way people look at expense reports by automating not just the expense report, but the entire business trip. Joining our team means you are helping us fight the good fight against expense reports that suck!
About The Job
As a member of the Business Development Team, your job is to seek out and secure the most exciting and promising opportunities in the world. Sounds glamorous, no? Well, it's not for the faint of heart. There is a seemingly endless number of partnerships and strategic moves Expensify could make. It takes an incredibly sharp team to identify which opportunities are truly worth pursuing and then relentlessly following through until we’ve secured the best ones.
Joining our team means you will be working in our fast paced environment and that you are fearlessly taking on our next big challenge. We hope you like flying - you’ll travel all over the world in pursuit of Expensify’s Next Big Thing. Not only that, we take a month-long company trip somewhere overseas each year (last year was Uruguay). Where do you want to go to next?
You’re an entrepreneurial extrovert who loves developing relationships and can think outside the box to figure out how to structure partnerships that make all parties happy. You’re able to execute tactically, but see the big picture and think strategically. We expect you to contribute with ideas of your own, not just follow orders. You aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty to do whatever it takes to get the job done. You’re ok with talking high-level to CEOs one day and spending the entire next making a slide deck. It’s not all glamorous, but it sure can be fun. The sky’s the limit for you, as this position allows you to get an incredible amount of diverse experience on an accelerated timeline vs. what you would get in a “normal” job.
For the best possible fit, we are looking for someone who:
Can communicate to all levels within a company (including C-level) in a professional manner
Is a team player with great interpersonal skills
Has a general understanding of accounting processes
Is comfortable leading complex projects with little oversight
Is not bothered by and in fact eager to travel as much as 20% of the time
Wants to contribute to the growth of this team for the future
Can provide excellent verbal and written communication with clients
Humble enough to do the not-so-fun parts of the job
Has at least two years of experience in a relevant role (we’re going to take a pretty vague and liberal interpretation of relevant here)
Like what you see? Applying is easy, but it takes time. See, while we know you're awesome, it's actually really hard and time consuming to find you in the midst of literally hundreds of other applications we get from everyone else. So this is where we're going to ask our first favor: can you make it really easy and obvious how great you are, so we don't accidentally overlook you? There are probably many ways to do that, but the easiest way is to help us out by answering the following questions:
What is the most interesting “thing” you have done professionally thus far? Why do you think it is interesting?
What do you think is the most exciting partnership today? Why is it exciting to you?
Pretend you had a month to do whatever you wanted. What would you do? And would this be sufficient time to accomplish the goals you set out to achieve?
What do you want to do with your life, and how is Expensify a step toward those long-term goals?
How did you hear about us? A job posting? Chalk on a sidewalk? From a friend? Let us know where you saw this opening.
Resume not your thing? That’s great, we don’t really read them anyways! Forward your responses to the questions to firstname.lastname@example.org. We're excited to hear from you!
